Before applying something to your car, make sure it is actually a scratch not just anything lying on the surface of your car. Firstly, take a soft cotton cloth, slightly damp it and gently rub on the scratch, so that if it’s something’s got stuck to the surface will be cleaned.
If you are that the mark is not a debris but a scratch, inspect the depth of the scratch. If the scratch is not deep and just the outermost layer has been affecting, you can recover it easily with simple methods.
Search for other areas which require repair or touch-up. Frequent, painting and repairing sessions can be quite expensive. So look for all areas which you can repair with the tools you are going to use for your scratch. This will save your time and money at the same time.
Now, Follow the steps to repair the scratches and marks affecting the appearance of your car.
Step1:
Wash your car properly and remove the layer of dust. Dirt particles can cause more scratches while repairing because they are harsher on the clear coat. If you are not willing to wash, clean the car properly with a damp cloth or you can also use a mild shampoo.
Step 2:
Use sandpaper to rub the clear coat from scratch. This will remove the outermost coat of paint and reveal the second skin (primer). Make sure you are gentle while scrubbing the scratch with sandpaper because harshness can worsen the situation.
Always rub sandpaper in the direction of scratch. In addition, make sure you are using a clean sandpaper and there is no dirt because it can intensify the scar even more which becomes hard to repair.
Once rubbed with sandpaper, clean the area with water to remove the trashes of clear coat and it becomes smooth to repair.
Step 3:
Take a dry, clean and soft cloth to wipe out the surface. Use very light cloth, the clean cotton cloth is recommended.
Step 4:
Take rubbing compound ( chemical to smoothen the surface layer of the car) and apply it on buffer pad. Now, slowly move the rubbing pad in a circular motion, this will remove the paint quickly and effectively. Use very light pressure and rub it for 15-20 seconds only.
Now, clean the compound with a clean cloth and a dull layer will appear. Now, it’s ready for polishing
Step 5:
Take the same rubbing compound and buffer pad and rub it gently again. But now rub it for at least five minutes. Turn the buffer pad to the lowest speed and patiently move it side-to-side and then downwards. The tip to polish the surface is kept moving and do not spend more than a second on the same spot.
Again, wash the area to remove the rubbing compound.
Step 6:
Wax the area to keep the paint intact. Apply carnauba wax on the buff pad and move it gently. You can also use any other method which you are comfortable in.
